PBS – NJN

Mauricio Gerson attended the Annenberg School of Communications and Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He received his Master’s Degree at Penn where he also met Albert Rose, his television teacher who was also the head of programming for NJN – New Jersey Public Television. Professor Rose invited him to work as a volunteer in a documentary titled: “Atlantic City: The Queen Takes a Chance” after the State passed a referendum to allow Casinos in the beach resort set on the atlantic coast of New Jersey. The first casino Resorts International  opened its doors for business on May 26, 1978. He then joined as a full staff producer for the Networks Public Affairs where he became the Executive Producer and Host of IMAGES/IMAGENES a bilingual Hispnic series. Mauricio Gerson received an EMMY Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New York City in 1985 for “Sembrando el Futuro” a five part bilingual series. Educational materials in Spanish and English based on the subjects treated in each pregram were made available for use in parenting education classes to provide further insight and guidance. The Family Repertory Theatre, a Newark based Hispanic theatre company, and professional consultants and educators dramatized and further explored issues and problems related to health, safety and well-being of children and families from a Hispanic perspective. Topics included child sexual and physical abuse as well as nutrition. He also produced a 3 part series titled: “We Have Entered the Information Age” looking to the future of computers and satellites and the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Mauricio work at NJN for eight consecutive years receiving several journalistic awards around the country.
